Lake Louise & Moraine Lake

The iconic turquoise lakes — the postcard image of the Canadian Rockies and the busiest zone in the park.
Lake Louise hamlet (population 1,000) sits 60km north-west of Banff Town beside the famous lake of the same name. The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise dominates the eastern shore. Moraine Lake, 14km further into the Valley of the Ten Peaks, is photographed even more obsessively — its private vehicle access has been permanently closed since 2023, shuttle or Roam Bus only. Plain of Six Glaciers and Larch Valley are the headline day hikes. In winter Lake Louise Ski Resort is across the valley with a separate access road.
