The main ferry hub — biggest town, Calle Santander tourist market, gateway to everywhere else.
Panajachel (Pana) sits at the northern edge of the lake where the road from Guatemala City arrives — making it the practical hub from which most lancha boats radiate to other villages. Calle Santander is the main tourist drag, lined with textile stalls, hotels, restaurants and travel agencies. Has the broadest accommodation range from $10 hostels to the lakefront Hotel Atitlán resort. Most visitors' first night on the lake.
