Northern Beaches village with two beach types — and the 30-minute ferry past the Opera House is half the experience.

Manly sits on a narrow peninsula where ocean beach meets calm harbour beach: surf on one side, swimming on the other, with a pedestrianised shopping precinct and excellent restaurants connecting them. The ferry from Circular Quay is genuinely one of Sydney's great experiences — 30 minutes past the Heads, through the harbour, with Opera House and Harbour Bridge visible on the way — and should be budgeted as a sightseeing activity in its own right. Manly is laid-back, walkable, and genuinely family-oriented without feeling sanitised.
