Amalfi Coast

The local eastern end — the coast's widest beaches, most affordable beds, and least touristy atmosphere.
Maiori and Minori sit at the eastern end of the Amalfi Coast, just past Ravello's descent toward the sea. Together they offer what the rest of the coast largely lacks: wide sandy and pebble beaches that don't require advance booking for a sun lounger, seafront restaurants priced for Italian families rather than international visitors, and a genuine year-round community. Minori is particularly charming, with a Roman villa (Villa Marittima) and the famous Salvatore De Riso pasticceria — the best pastry shop on the coast. The trade-off is the least dramatic cliff scenery.

What you gain
- ↑The widest beach on the coast: Maiori's broad seafront promenade and beach is the most family-friendly stretch of sand between Sorrento and Salerno
- ↑Most affordable accommodation on the Amalfi Coast: hotels and B&Bs here run at 30–50% below equivalent quality in Positano
- ↑Minori's De Riso pasticceria: the legendary pastry shop of Salvatore De Riso — sfogliatelle, delizia al limone, and almond pastries that justify a detour from anywhere on the coast
What you sacrifice
- ↓The least dramatic cliff scenery on the coast: Maiori and Minori are beautiful but lack the vertiginous spectacle of Positano or Praiano
- ↓A bus or boat ride from Positano and the western highlights: day trips to the western end require planning and time on the SS163
- ↓Less atmosphere in the evenings compared to Amalfi and Positano: the towns are more residential than scenic
