Bangkok

Where Bangkok's young professionals actually live — the most genuinely local district with BTS access.
Ari sits north of Sukhumvit on the BTS Silom Line and is the neighbourhood Bangkok's own creative class chose when Thonglor got expensive. Independent coffee shops, local restaurants at genuine Thai prices, and a neighbourhood market that operates entirely for the people who live there. It's a 20-minute BTS ride from the Grand Palace ferry connections and has some of Bangkok's best accommodation value.

What you gain
- ↑Best independent café scene in Bangkok — a density of quality coffee shops that feels nothing like the tourist areas
- ↑Local restaurants at genuine Bangkok prices rather than the tourist markup of Sukhumvit
- ↑Ari BTS station: direct line to Silom and Sukhumvit without the chaos of those neighbourhoods
What you sacrifice
- ↓Further from the Grand Palace and Chao Phraya river sights — adds journey time to temple days
- ↓Less hotel infrastructure; mostly boutique hotels and serviced apartments
- ↓Nightlife is low-key; not where you come for the Bangkok after-dark scene
