The northern outskirts hosting the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding — green, suburban, quieter, panda-pilgrimage zone.
Chenghua District covers the north and northeast of central Chengdu — leafy, residential, with the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding as its star attraction. The Research Base is the world's most important panda conservation center: 100+ giant pandas plus red pandas across 92 hectares of bamboo forest. Best visited 06:30-09:00 when pandas are feeding. The wider Chenghua area includes the Sichuan Science and Technology Museum, Wenshu Monastery (peaceful Buddhist complex with vegetarian restaurant), and a growing cluster of mid-range hotels (Citadines, Mercure) for panda-focused travellers.
