Chiang Rai
White Temple Corridor

South Chiang Rai's temple route — the White Temple, local guesthouses, and a quieter base than the city.
The road south from Chiang Rai city toward Highway 1 is anchored by Wat Rong Khun — the White Temple — and a scatter of guesthouses and small resorts that have grown up to serve visitors who want to wake up beside the temples rather than commute from the city. The area is distinctly less urban than the Night Bazaar district: quieter in the evenings, surrounded by rice fields and low-rise Thai neighbourhoods, and best suited to those with a hire car or motorcycle. The White Temple opens at 08:00; staying nearby means you can be there before tour buses arrive.

What you gain
- ↑Walking distance to Wat Rong Khun before it opens: the most important logistical advantage available in Chiang Rai
- ↑Quieter than city centre: rice field surroundings and minimal road noise after the evening songthaews stop
- ↑Better value guesthouses with garden settings unavailable in the city centre
What you sacrifice
- ↓No walkable evening dining or entertainment: dinner requires songthaew or motorbike to the city or Night Bazaar
- ↓Limited accommodation stock; demand peaks in cool season and books out quickly
- ↓Entirely car or motorbike dependent for the day's other temple visits
