Kenya's finest marine park — dolphins, turtles, manta rays, and reef snorkelling by dhow.
Kisite-Mpunguti Marine National Park lies about 8km south of Diani, accessed by a 45-minute dhow ride from Shimoni village. It protects some of the best coral reef in East Africa, with spinner dolphins, green and hawksbill turtles, and seasonal whale shark and manta ray sightings. Most visitors come on half-day or full-day snorkelling dhow trips from the beach strip — the combination of traditional sailing and pristine reef makes it one of the best marine day trips on the African continent.

What you gain
- ↑Spinner dolphins reliably sighted year-round; pods of 50–100 not uncommon on morning dhow crossings
- ↑Green and hawksbill turtle population: both species nest on the outer islands and are frequently seen while snorkelling
- ↑Manta rays February–April and whale sharks November–January: among the best accessible big-animal sightings in East African waters
What you sacrifice
- ↓Not a base to stay in — accessed only as a day trip; accommodation does not exist within the marine park
- ↓Dhow trips (45 minutes each way) and park fees add up: budget USD 60–100 per person for a full-day excursion
