Dubai's financial centre doubles as its best upscale dining and gallery district.
The Dubai International Financial Centre is a city-within-a-city: a free-zone jurisdiction with its own legal system, a cluster of glass towers housing international banks and law firms, and — somewhat improbably — one of the best concentrations of high-end restaurants, contemporary art galleries, and rooftop bars in the Middle East. Gate Village is the cultural heart, with rotating exhibitions and the best gallery scene in Dubai. The clientele is finance professionals, business visitors, and expats who work here; it's not a tourist neighbourhood but it doesn't need to be.

What you gain
- ↑The finest concentration of upscale restaurants in Dubai — from Michelin-calibre international kitchens to exceptional Middle Eastern fine dining; the best eating neighbourhood in the city
- ↑Gate Village art galleries rotate excellent contemporary shows — the DIFC Arts Night (irregular) is one of the best cultural events in Dubai
- ↑Excellent for business travel: proximity to major firms, the best business hotels, and a district that functions at international standards
What you sacrifice
- ↓Among the most expensive neighbourhoods in Dubai for everything — a coffee at Gate Village costs what lunch costs in Deira
- ↓Not a neighbourhood for families or casual exploration; the atmosphere is firmly finance-and-business in tone
- ↓Limited authentic cultural experience; DIFC is a transplanted global financial district that could exist in any major city

Other Dubai neighbourhoods
The Dubai that existed before the skyscrapers — gold souks, spice merchants, and the creek.
The most iconic skyline on earth — Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall, and the Fountain in one walkable district.
A yacht-lined canal surrounded by towers — Dubai's most active waterfront neighbourhood.
