Hue's coastal escape — 12km east of the city, a quiet resort strip with calm lagoon access and seafood restaurants.
Thuan An Beach sits on a narrow sandbar separating Tam Giang Lagoon — Vietnam's largest lagoon — from the South China Sea, about 12km east of Hue city. The beach itself is quieter and less developed than nearby Da Nang, with a string of small resort hotels and excellent seafood restaurants. In summer (June–August) it's popular with Vietnamese holiday-makers; outside that window it reverts to near-empty.

What you gain
- ↑Calm, swimmable beach from April to August: good for families with children
- ↑Tam Giang Lagoon boat trips available from nearby fishing villages: one of the best excursions near Hue
- ↑Seafood at beachside restaurants is fresh, cheap, and excellent: whole fish, clams, and shrimp grilled over charcoal
What you sacrifice
- ↓12km from the citadel and Royal Tombs — a taxi or motorbike required for every city visit
- ↓Off-season (September–March): beach is often rough, cold, and deserted; resort atmosphere collapses
- ↓Limited transport options: no direct bus, taxis are the main option
