Avoid
The historic heart — Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, and the Grand Bazaar, all on one hill.
Sultanahmet is the reason Istanbul exists: the hill where Constantine built his capital, where Justinian built his cathedral, and where Suleiman built his mosque. The density of world-class monuments is unmatched in Europe. The trade-off is that the area has become almost entirely touristic — hotels, carpet shops, and tour groups have replaced most local life.
