Good

Boat-only quiet escape — hammock culture, Iguana Perdida, hiking trailhead.

A village accessible only by lancha or footpath, on the northern shore between Panajachel and San Marcos. Two halves: the lakefront cluster of small hotels (La Iguana Perdida, Isla Verde, Free Cerveza) where most travellers stay, and the upper village 30 min uphill where locals live. The trailhead for the lakeside hike to San Marcos (3-4 hours) starts here. Quietest of the traveller villages and the most likely to feel like a proper retreat.

What you sacrifice
