Good
The neighbourhood that's actually changing Lisbon — creative, cheap, and not yet discovered.
Intendente and neighbouring Anjos are where Lisbon's creative class has moved as Mouraria and Bairro Alto have become too expensive or too touristy. Independent restaurants, natural wine bars, and studios occupy refurbished old buildings. It's not polished, but the energy is genuine and the prices are the lowest you'll find this close to the centre.

What you gain
- ↑Lowest accommodation prices of any neighbourhood on this list — strong value for those willing to explore
- ↑Mercado de Intendente and surrounding restaurants: the most interesting eating in Lisbon right now
- ↑Genuine creative neighbourhood energy without the self-consciousness of more established "cool" areas
What you sacrifice
- ↓Further from the major sights — Alfama, Chiado, and the riverfront all require a Métro ride or long walk
- ↓Not all streets feel safe at night — stick to the main squares and known restaurant strips after dark
- ↓Accommodation options are limited; mostly short-term rentals rather than hotels
