Parikia waterfront and windmill on Paros

Top pick

The ferry port and de-facto capital — the only neighbourhood that genuinely works year-round.

Where Blue Star ferries dock and where everything else on the island flows from. Has the island's biggest church (Ekatontapiliani, 4th century), the longest waterfront promenade and the most reliable bus connections. Less photogenic than Naoussa but far more practical — and the only place to stay if you're visiting in winter.

What you gain

  • Ferry port and main bus hub — no taxi needed
  • Ekatontapiliani church (Byzantine 4th century)
  • Year-round restaurants — Diavlos, Levantis, Ephessus

What you sacrifice

  • Less postcard-pretty than Naoussa
  • In-town beach (Livadia) is decent but not destination-grade
