Spa suburb at the Bosna source — Vrelo Bosne springs, horse-drawn carriages, Austro-Hungarian thermal hotels.
12km west of the centre, Ilidža has been a thermal-spa town since Roman times. The Austro-Hungarians built grand bath hotels (Hotel Bosna still operating) and laid the chestnut-lined Velika Aleja that runs 3.5km to Vrelo Bosne — the cold karst source of the Bosna river, walked or done by horse-drawn fijaker. Best for spa travellers and families wanting greenery; tram 3 runs to the centre in 30 minutes.
