The main island — the international gateway, 60+ beaches, the national park rainforest, and the Creole capital of Victoria.
Mahé is the largest and most populous island in the Seychelles, home to the international airport, the capital Victoria, and the most varied terrain in the archipelago: the Morne Seychellois National Park covers 3,000 hectares of granite mountain, cloud forest, and endemic plant species above the coastline. The island has over 60 beaches ranging from the popular Beau Vallon in the northwest (the most developed, with restaurants and water sports) to the wild and isolated Anse Intendance and Anse Takamaka on the south coast. Victoria is a small but functional capital with the Seychelles's only hospital, the best selection of restaurants, and the colourful Roche Caiman markets. Most first-time visitors use Mahé as the entry and exit point and day-trip to the outer islands.

What you gain
- ↑The most diverse single island in the Seychelles: a morning hiking the Morne Blanc trail through cloud forest, afternoon at the calm Beau Vallon beach, and evening at one of Victoria's Creole restaurants represents a full-spectrum Seychelles day that Praslin and La Digue cannot replicate alone
- ↑Sainte Anne Marine National Park, accessible by glass-bottom boat from Victoria harbour, is the most accessible snorkelling experience in the Seychelles: hawksbill turtles feed on the seagrass beds, reef sharks cruise the deeper channels, and the coral coverage within the protected park is among the best-preserved of the inner islands
- ↑Practical logistics base: Mahé has the airport, car hire, the inter-island ferry terminal for Praslin and La Digue, and the widest range of accommodation from budget guesthouses to ultra-luxury private villas; most Seychelles itineraries begin and end here regardless of other islands visited
What you sacrifice
- ↓Mahé is more developed and urban than the outer islands — the beaches around Victoria and the northern coast are the most commercially developed in the Seychelles, and the island can feel more like a resort destination and less like a wild Indian Ocean experience than Praslin or La Digue
- ↓The most famous beaches on Mahé (Anse Intendance, Anse Takamaka, Anse Soleil) are on the south coast and require a 30–45 minute drive on winding mountain roads from the airport and Victoria; the north coast beaches nearest the accommodation hub are beautiful but not Seychelles's finest

Other Seychelles neighbourhoods
Car-free island paradise — Anse Source d'Argent's sculpted granite, bicycles as transport, and the most intimate island in the Seychelles.
The second island — Anse Lazio (consistently the world's most beautiful beach), the Vallée de Mai UNESCO forest, and the gateway to La Digue.
The most remote luxury on Earth — fly-in coral atolls, whale sharks, pristine reefs, and private island resorts with no other guests visible.
