Dapa ferry port and fishing boats

Top pick

Ferry-port town with the public market, local life and a much cheaper base.

Dapa is the ferry port from Surigao and one of two main service towns. Has the public market, hospital, banks and the working harbour. Most travellers pass through on arrival; few stay. North of Dapa toward Del Carmen sits the mangrove-fringed western coast — quieter, with eco-resorts and proper local life. A practical base if you want supermarket access and significantly lower nightly rates than GL.

What you gain

  • Cheapest accommodation on the island

  • Ferry port if you're continuing to Cebu/Bohol

What you sacrifice

  • 30-min motorbike to Cloud 9 — surfers will hate this
  • Little tourist infrastructure — limited English-menu restaurants
  • No beach in Dapa town itself
