Singapore
Marina Bay / CBD

The postcard view of Singapore — Marina Bay Sands, Gardens by the Bay, and the iconic skyline.
Marina Bay is Singapore's showpiece: the lotus-shaped ArtScience Museum, the three towers of Marina Bay Sands with their infinity pool sky deck, and the Supertree Grove of Gardens by the Bay all within a short walk of each other across a waterfront that was reclaimed from the sea. The adjacent CBD pulses with finance and law during the week and empties at weekends. It's simultaneously one of the most spectacular urban environments in Asia and one of the least residential — a place to see rather than live in.

What you gain
- ↑Gardens by the Bay — the Supertree Grove nightly light show (free) and Flower Dome are world-class; nothing else in Singapore offers the same visual impact in a single afternoon
- ↑Marina Bay Sands sky deck and infinity pool (hotel guests only for the pool, observation deck ticketed) — the most iconic view of the Singapore skyline; worth every dollar
- ↑Perfect transit connectivity: MRT links to Chinatown, Orchard Road, Little India, and the airport with no transfers
What you sacrifice
- ↓Among the most expensive areas in Singapore for accommodation and dining — staying here means paying a significant premium for the address
- ↓Minimal local feel or community life; the CBD empties at weekends and Marina Bay is an attraction rather than a neighbourhood
- ↓Restaurant options in the immediate Marina Bay area skew heavily toward hotel dining at hotel prices; better food value is found a few MRT stops away
