Varanasi
Bengali Tola / BHU

Student/Bengali quarter near Banaras Hindu University — calmer lanes, music schools, intellectuals' cafes.
Bengali Tola is the Bengali-Hindu enclave between the central ghats and BHU. The streets are narrower than Godaulia but quieter, with old havelis converted to guesthouses and music academies where you can hear sitar practice through windows. Banaras Hindu University campus is leafy and walkable. Good base for travellers wanting Old City access without the most hectic crush.
