Vienna
Leopoldstadt (2nd District)

Vienna's fastest-changing neighbourhood — the Prater, canal bars, and rising creative energy.
Leopoldstadt is Vienna's second district, historically the Jewish quarter and home to the Prater and its famous Riesenrad Ferris wheel. In recent years the Donaukanal (Danube Canal) waterfront has developed a bar and café strip that's become the summer gathering point for young Vienna. The Karmelitermarkt is among the city's best neighbourhood markets. Accommodation is significantly cheaper than the First District.

What you gain
- ↑Donaukanal bar and café strip: Vienna's most relaxed summer gathering place with great energy
- ↑Prater and the Riesenrad: the classic Vienna fairground is still a genuine pleasure, especially with children
- ↑Karmelitermarkt (Tuesday-Saturday): one of Vienna's best neighbourhood markets with strong local character
What you sacrifice
- ↓A bridge crossing from the First District — everything requires a 15-minute walk or short tram
- ↓Still developing; some streets feel transitional and unfinished
- ↓The canal bars are seasonal — outside May-September the strip loses much of its energy
