Cook Islands
Rarotonga Interior & Cross-Island Track

Lush rainforest interior — Te Rua Manga needle hike, waterfalls, and the island's mountainous heart.
Rarotonga's interior is one of the most dramatic landscapes in Polynesia: a densely forested volcanic core with the Te Rua Manga (The Needle) as its centrepiece — a sheer basalt pinnacle rising from the jungle that rewards the 2-hour Cross-Island Track hike with views from ridge to sea on both coasts. Waterfalls run year-round in the valleys below, and the lack of any development in the interior means genuine solitude within 20 minutes of any beach. A guide is strongly recommended for the upper section.
