Cook Islands
Muri Beach

Rarotonga's most beautiful beach — lagoon swimming, watersports, and the main resort strip.
Muri is the postcard face of Rarotonga: a sheltered lagoon on the island's south-east coast with calm, shallow water, four small motu dotting the horizon, and the highest concentration of resorts, restaurants, and water-activity operators on the main island. The lagoon is walkable at low tide to the first motu, and outrigger canoe hire and kitesurfing are both available without advance booking. Sunsets here face east, so head to the west coast for those.

What you gain
- ↑The best and most accessible swimming lagoon on Rarotonga — calm, warm, and shallow enough for families
- ↑Most complete activity infrastructure on the island: outrigger canoes, paddleboards, snorkel hire, kitesurfing
- ↑Strong concentration of good restaurants and bars within walking distance along the beach road
What you sacrifice
- ↓Most touristy part of Rarotonga — the accommodation strip is busy in peak season
- ↓Faces east, so sunsets are elsewhere; west-coast evenings require a drive or scooter
- ↓Some parts of the lagoon are shallow at low tide and not ideal for swimming
