Hoi An
An Bang Beach

A laid-back beach village 5km from the Old Town — the expat and long-stay alternative to Da Nang.
An Bang is where Hoi An's expat community, longer-stay travellers, and those who discovered it a decade ago have quietly based themselves. Beach bars, seafood shacks, and guesthouses with vegetable gardens line the sand — a world removed from both Da Nang's resort strip and the Ancient Town's lantern-lit intensity. It's entirely motorbike-dependent: the 5km to the Old Town takes 10 minutes on a hired scooter or a Grab, which structures your days differently. An Bang is essentially closed from September through mid-November when the surf is dangerous and most beach businesses shutter.

What you gain
- ↑The calmest beach access near Hoi An: smaller and quieter than Da Nang with a genuinely laid-back beach-bar culture
- ↑Good value mid-range accommodation with pools — far better room quality per dollar than the Old Town at the same budget
- ↑The most practical base for combining an Ancient Town day-trip with a beach holiday — close enough to do both, far enough to feel separate
What you sacrifice
- ↓Motorbike or Grab essential for every Old Town visit — adds cost and planning overhead that the Old Town and An Hoi avoid
- ↓Completely unusable from September to mid-November: rough seas, shuttered businesses, and dangerous surf make it a different place entirely
