The remote south-coast coves — single-track road through a 1.4km tunnel to reach them.
Hvar's southern coast is reached by the famous single-lane Pitve Tunnel — 1.4km of unlit rock chiselled out by communist-era farmers. On the other side: Zavala, Sveta Nedjelja and Ivan Dolac, all tiny villages with stone-built konobas, vineyards (Plavac Mali grown on near-vertical slopes), and pebble coves with no crowds. For real escape.
