Five islands 15 minutes by boat — Sapi, Manukan, and Gaya offer snorkelling, white beaches, and zero-car tranquillity.
Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park is one of the most accessible island groups in Southeast Asia: five islands within sight of the KK skyline, reached in 15–20 minutes by water taxi from Jesselton Point Jetty. Manukan is the most developed with chalets and a decent restaurant; Sapi is the snorkelling favourite with hard coral starting 2 metres from the beach; Mamutik is the quietest. You can island-hop on a single day ticket. Gaya Island — the largest — hosts the floating water village of Kampung Pulo, home to generations of Filipino migrants living on stilts above the sea.

What you gain
- ↑Snorkelling straight off the beach at Sapi: clownfish, parrotfish, and living coral 50 metres from the shore without a dive certification
- ↑Island-hop ticket covers all five islands — combine Manukan's beach facilities with Sapi's reef and Mamutik's solitude in a single day
- ↑Gaya Island water village (Kampung Pulo) is one of the most genuinely unusual communities in Malaysian Borneo — ask a local boat to drop you at the jetty
What you sacrifice
- ↓Manukan and Sapi get crowded by 10am on weekends and holiday months — take the first 7:30am boat to beat tour groups
- ↓No overnight options on the smaller islands; Gaya Island Resort is the only upscale stay, at resort prices
- ↓Boat cancellations are frequent in the rainy season (Nov–Jan, Jun, Sep) — build buffer days into your itinerary
