Three kilometres north of Luxor Temple, anchored by the massive Karnak Temple Complex and the avenue of sphinxes.
Karnak Temple Complex is the largest religious building ever constructed — a 2km² maze of pylons, sanctuaries, sacred lake, the Hypostyle Hall (134 columns of 23m). The recently reopened Avenue of Sphinxes (Tariq al-Kebash) connects Karnak directly to Luxor Temple, a 2.7km walkable processional way. Few hotels north of the temple — most travellers stay east-bank and take a taxi to Karnak. Sound and Light show evenings keep the site lively after sunset.
