Okinawa
Chatan (American Village)
Unsplash / Unsplash
Central-west coast resort strip — Ferris wheel, sunset beach, and US-base-influenced bars and burgers.
Chatan sits 30 minutes north of Naha airport and is built around American Village (Mihama), a low-rise mall complex with a Ferris wheel and Sunset Beach. The nearby US military bases give the area its hybrid feel — Mexican joints next to Okinawan izakayas, craft-beer bars run by ex-Marines. Decent base for sightseeing because you're halfway up the island.
