Santorini
Fira

Santorini's capital and transport hub — more affordable than Oia, with caldera views and a real town.
Fira is the island's commercial centre: a proper town with pharmacies, supermarkets, the ferry cable car, and caldera-view restaurants at significantly lower prices than Oia. It's still very tourist-oriented but has more genuine infrastructure and a wider range of accommodation budgets. The path north along the caldera rim to Imerovigli and Oia is one of the great hikes on the island.

What you gain
- ↑Best transit hub: buses to all island villages, cable car to the port, and ferry connections all here
- ↑Caldera views at lower prices than Oia; still spectacular sunsets without the Oia crowd density
- ↑Caldera path to Oia: 10km walk one of the most dramatic coastal hikes in Greece
What you sacrifice
- ↓Fira's main commercial street is cruise-ship-tourist territory; shops and restaurants vary wildly in quality
- ↓Noisier than Oia — the nightlife strip around Erythrou Stavrou is active until late
- ↓The most crowded bus stop on the island; transport can be chaotic in summer peak
