Ao Nang

The main mainland hub — the most convenient and complete base for all Krabi coast activity.
Ao Nang is the operational centre of the Krabi coast: the beach strip where all longtail boats to Railay and the island tours depart, where every dive shop, tour operator, restaurant, and accommodation option is concentrated. It's accessible by road from Krabi Town (30 minutes) and has the widest range of hotels from budget guesthouses to four-star beachfront. The beach itself is pleasant without matching Railay — but Ao Nang's value is as a base, not a destination in itself.

What you gain
- ↑All restaurants, dive shops, tour operators, and longtail boats to Railay and the Four Islands depart from here — the only base where every Krabi activity is within walking distance
- ↑Widest accommodation range on the Krabi coast across every price point, from ฿400 guesthouses to 4-star beachfront; far more choice than Railay
- ↑Easily walkable beach strip: Ao Nang beach runs the full length of the commercial area, with restaurants, bars, and tour booths all on foot
What you sacrifice
- ↓The beach itself is less beautiful than Railay or West Railay: calmer, shallower, with longtail boats and tour boats anchored throughout the day
- ↓An increasingly commercialised strip: touts, souvenir shops, and tour-booking stalls line the main road, with little authentic Thai street life remaining
- ↓Not truly local — Ao Nang operates almost entirely for international tourists; for genuine Thai life, Krabi Town is 30 minutes away
