Kintetsu Nara Station Area

Nara's transit hub and accommodation centre — convenient, practical, and the best base for early starts.
The immediate area around Kintetsu Nara Station (and the slightly further JR Nara Station) forms Nara's practical centre: the bulk of mid-range hotels sit here, the Higashimuki arcade runs directly into the park, and buses to Horyu-ji depart from the square outside. It lacks the atmosphere of Naramachi but compensates with transit convenience — important for those combining Nara with Kyoto or Osaka day trips in either direction. Evening dining options, while not exceptional, are the best of any Nara district for a wider range of cuisines.

What you gain
- ↑Direct Kintetsu express to Kyoto (35 min) and Osaka Namba (40 min) from the station below the hotel strip
- ↑Best concentration of mid-range hotels in Nara; the only area with genuine choice across budget levels
- ↑Closest accommodation to Nara Park: a 10-minute walk puts you at the edge of the deer park at opening time
What you sacrifice
- ↓Station-area atmosphere: functional rather than charming — it's a transit hub, not a destination in itself
- ↓More expensive than Naramachi guesthouses for comparable quality
- ↓The Higashimuki arcade is tourist-priced; locals eat further east
